Darren Toomey is a proud Wiradjuri man with strong family connections across Dubbo and Western NSW. Known for his compassion, integrity, and deep commitment to community, Darren has built a career dedicated to supporting Aboriginal people to navigate challenges and achieve positive outcomes.
He brings extensive experience in community engagement, program management, and facilitation, particularly in the areas of men’s behavioural change, mentoring, family and domestic violence, drug and alcohol support, and mental health. Darren’s professional background spans policing, Aboriginal health services, land councils, mentoring, and group facilitation, equipping him with a unique skill set to deliver culturally grounded and practical solutions.
Currently serving as the Regional Program Manager for Early Intervention in Western NSW, Darren leads programs that create meaningful change at a grassroots level. His strong focus on mental health and wellbeing underpins his work, ensuring that individuals and families are supported holistically and with cultural safety.
As Co-Founder and Co-Director of Bunmabunmarra Service Australia, Darren provides leadership to programs including Gibir House, a supported accommodation service for men, and Walumarra Strong Families, a domestic and family violence support program. Darren’s vision is to strengthen families, empower men and women to live free from violence, and create safer communities through healing, accountability, and reconnection to culture.
